Skin Care Information Guide
Herbal Skin Care
Herbal skin care has been practiced for thousands of years when only natural products were available. Once science has learned how to synthesize new chemicals and mass produce them it was almost the death sentence for many herbal skin care products. Not only have many of the recipes been lost but herbal products are not as popular as they once were as science has gradually changed people's attitudes towards skin care.
It is probably our laziness not to produce our own and the ease with which large companies can supply them that has been the real downfall of the wonderful, natural products. Large skin care manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon that has come about in all things natural but their herbal preparations have to be mixed with some kind of preservative if they are to last which means they are not as good as home made ones.
It seems that increasing numbers of people are becoming more discerning and using herbal skin care products again from companies that are specializing in making small batches of these products. But still, as no-one wants to make them at home, the commercial market of herbal skin care products is on the rise but what are these herbs or herbal skin care mechanisms?
Almost everyone has heard of aloe vera but did you know is an excellent skin moisturizer and can treat sunburn, cuts and other skin problems? Other household herbs like dandelion, chamomile, lime flowers and rosemary are good at cleansing but usually when they are in combination with other herbs.
Nature has also supplies us with natural healing herbs that have antiseptic properties like lavender, marigold, thyme and fennel and people still use rose water and lavender water to help condition their skin. Products containing extracts of tea have also been found to be very effective treating people that have received too much UV radiation from the sun.
Oils prepared from herbal extracts present another means of herbal skin care like tea tree oil, Lavender oil, borage oil and primrose oil which are some of the more popular oils used in herbal skin care. Bananas, apple and melon have hydration properties and are very good for the skin, which is why so many manufacturers use them in bath and shower gels etc.
Most herbal skin care products don't have any side effects; which is the most important reason for preferring them over synthetic products, moreover, herbal skin care products can be easily made at home, hence making them even more attractive. So, herbal skin care is the way to go but this does not mean that you totally discard the synthetic products and you should accept the fact that some skin orders might need usage of clinically proven non-herbal skin care products.
If you want your skin to look for your whole life, you will take care of it irrespective of whether it is with herbal or synthetic skin care products.
